THE ODYSSEY PRACTICE IS AN ADVENTURE IN TRANSFORMATION.

Transformation occurs as a result of intent. Rituals serve to focus the intent. The more focused the intent, the more powerful the potential transformation. - Caryn Anderson

Where to start? I am a... THINKER - DOER - PEOPLE PERSON - BIG PICTURE PERSON

The Odyssey is an epic poem attributed to Homer, which describes the ten years' wandering and adventures of Odysseus (Latin: Ulysses) in returning home to Ithaca after Trojan War. This Odyssey is also a long wandering or series of travels, and also a return home after a mighty battle.

  • Part urban walking tour, part spiritual retreat, the Odyssey is a systematic ritual I've developed based on a creative integration of ancient mystical and mythological traditions.
  • Part scavenger hunt, part holy pilgrimage, the Odyssey course is an adventure-based program designed to generate personal transformation using mental, emotional, spiritual and physical methods.
  • Part dress-up, part mindfulness, the Odyssey journey is a playful exploration and mining of our deepest values and qualities.

If the ideas of Psychological Sudoku, Mystical Scrabble, Linguistic Labyrinths or Mathematical Meditation seem more curious than crazy, and you are looking for some new creative problem-solving methods in your personal or professional life, this may be the adventure for you. Based on Creative Planning and Pragmatic Serendipity, the Odyssey experience can be described as a Methodological Pilgrimage or a kind of Spiritual Outward Bound. You need to be willing to do a little math, a little reading, a little mind-opening, and a substantial amount of walking.

If you are a THINKER... ... Start with ABOUT and ELEMENTS sections.

If you like to know the theory, philosophy and foundational elements of something before you jump in, the ABOUT section includes essays the Odyssey perspective and philosophy, a brief outline of how the Odyssey was developed, and some history and definitions of the primary spiritual and mythological traditions that form the foundations of this Odyssey practice.

If you like to understand the nature of the components before you engage, the ELEMENTS section is where you'll find details about how the Tree of Life, the basic physical elements (fire, water, air, earth), archetypes, symbols, readings, and the prompts for growth and stability (tarot) are used and integrated in the Odyssey practice.

If you are a DOER... ... Start with STEPS, JOURNEYS, and COURSE sections.

Review the steps of the Odyssey practice to get a sense of what you do:
  1. Calculate and Interpret Growth Cycles - Learn how to leverage your personal growth cycles
  2. Generate Alternative Perspectives - Get guidance on questions
  3. Map and Engage in Journey - Plan physical activites to open your mind
  4. Share Experiences - Engage with others to amplify the benefits
The journeys section might not make as much sense without looking at the steps first, but it gives a good sense of the most adventurous part of the Odyssey practice. Consider doing the Odyssey as a 10-week course where you are guided slowly and thoughtfully through every phase of the practice with a group of similarly inclined individuals.

If you are a PEOPLE PERSON... ... Start with STORIES and COMMUNITY sections.

You can read about the stories of other people who have embarked on an Odyssey journey and practice. Some have only investigated their growth cycles. Some have gone through the entire process and undertaken their own walking journey. The community section includes FAQs, advice from other travelers, and as our community grows it will include a forum and methods for arranging meetups.

If you are a BIG PICTURE PERSON... ... Start with COURSE and STEPS sections.

One way to get a sense of the entire Odyssey practice is to review the syllabus for the 10-week course. A review of the steps page can also give a good overview.
